Hi. I am doing some reasearch in live migration within cloud environments. I have set up Openstack Mitaka on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS servers. The setup uses two nics each on the servers ( one all in one node and one compute node), one for management network, and the other for provider network (tunnel network and vlans are trunked through my provider network interface). My doubt is that when i live migrate an instance from one host to another, which path does the vm data teavel by? Is it through the management network, or through the provider network? Thanks.

The hostname of the target compute node is used as the migration target. Normally, this means that the instance is copied over the management network, but since Mitaka this can be changed with a config variable (see http://specs.openstack.org/openstack/...).

Live migration data flow should be via management network.
