openstack services add thousands of processes [closed]

Installed using packstack --allinone. On large machine, nproc==128, mem=1024GB. Not all services can be trimmed down using conf files. Why have 520 processes for Nova as default? This is Ocata under CentOS.

By default, the number of worker processes per Nova service is equal to the number of CPUs. nova.conf contains parameters that can change the default, e.g. osapi_compute_workers=1.

Thanks, I had that info previously. Yes, I was able to reduce Nova-related service processes somewhat by changing 128 in the conf file to 4. But not all services seemed to obey the hint, and some of them I have no idea where the configuration is really done. Seems like much of this stuff wants to configure by CPU nodes available and/or GB RAM available... Is there a reasonable strategy behind this?

I think the strategy to scale the number of workers according to the capacity of the host is quite reasonable. But which processes continue to bug you?
