I pass the following to map a block device during a create api call but get an error saying the UUID is missing.

    "block_device_mapping_v2":[
         {"boot_index":0,
          "delete_on_termination":false,
          "volume_size":25,
          "source_type":"image",
          "image_id":"cd0b6b83-ccb1-42c3-86bd-09eeffa211aa",
          "destination_type":"volume"}
 ],

The UUID should be optional and the volume should be created according to the documentation

You mean creating a server? The example contains a UUID. Where does it say it's optional?

Perhaps you need to replace image_id with uuid.

Instead of 'image_id' it's called 'uuid'.
