Dear stackers,

  • Docker host:

    Linux openstack-compute 3.13.0-62-generic #102-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 11 14:29:36 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

  • docker version:

  • kolla version:

    ocata stable

  • openstack_release_version:

  • kolla_base_

We want to do some networking related debugging in kolla, eg: we want to see the output of 'ovs-vsctl show ' in neutron-dhcp-agent container like this

(neutron-dhcp-agent)[neutron@openstack-compute /]$ ovs-vsctl show
ovs-vsctl: unix:/var/run/openvswitch/db.sock: database connection failed (Permission denied)

However the result is like this

ovs-vsctl: unix:/var/run/openvswitch/db.sock: database connection failed (Permission denied)

When we use sudo to run the previous command again, the following shows

(neutron-dhcp-agent)[neutron@openstack-compute /]$ h)`sudo': sudo ovs-vsctl show
[sudo] password for neutron:

Does anyone know what is the neutron password then? if there is another way to get the output of the command 'ovs-vsctl show'?

Access to ovs socket cannot be made from the host.

The proper way is through ovs containers:

docker run -ti openvswitch_vswitchd ovs-vsctl show

docker run -ti openvswitch_db ovs-vsctl show

I'm not sure if even with neutron password can access to ovs directly from the host since neutron user have /bin/nologin shell.

Passwords are located in /etc/kolla/password.yml
