So Im starting out with OpenSTack and Ive configured the Controller and Compute nodes to what I think is correct: I am trying to provision a VM instance through the controller node after setting up the compute nodes via this command:

nova boot --flavor 1 --key_name mykey --image cca70938-308a-4ae5-8f1e-c43235ea0afb Test

I receive the following error:

ERROR: The server has either erred or is incapable of performing the requested operation. (HTTP 500) (Request-ID: req-9162146c-4639-415a-8e2a-f08ec069c494)

When I run:

nova --debug boot --flavor 1 --key_name mykey --image cca70938-308a-4ae5-8f1e-c43235ea0afb Test

I get this:

REQ: curl -i http://localhost:8774/v2/053f36be8a1f4d7a9ce72999dc2a121f/servers - X POST -H "X-Auth-Project-Id: admin" -H "User-Agent: python-novaclient" -H "Cont ent-Type: application/json" -H "Accept: application/json" -H "X-Auth-Token: ..." -d '{"server": {"name": "Test", "imageRef": "c ca70938-308a-4ae5-8f1e-c43235ea0afb", "key_name": "mykey", "flavorRef": "1", "ma x_count": 1, "min_count": 1}}'

I want to move forward to set up the dashboard but Id like to know that I can provision an instance successfully. After looking at some other threads, Ive checked /etc/nova/nova.conf for the connection string and that is correct as far as I know.

Anything else I should be looking at to resolve this?

Thank you for any assistance provided

You need to check through the Nova service logs (/var/log/nova/*.log) and see if there are any errors that correspond to these requests. Your best bet is to tail the log when making the request and see what shows up. Have you verified that other commands (e.g., "nova flavor-list") work correctly?

nova flavor-list, nova image-list all work properly. I find that when I run the nova boot command and when I try to run nova network-create commands, I get the HTTP 500 error. I will check the nova.log, however I believe all of the errors are consistent with whats above

This is what I see in nova.log. I tried to reset the rabbitmq guest password as well as restart the service but to no avail. 2014-01-12 19:36:50.785 32399 INFO nova.openstack.common.rpc.common [req-94e93f07-0e72-4425-a211-c8102d369177 None None] Reconnecting to AMQP server on localhost:5672 2014-01-12 19:36:53.795 32399 ERROR nova.openstack.common.rpc.common [req-94e93f07-0e72-4425-a211-c8102d369177 None None] AMQP server on localhost:5672 is unreachable: Socket closed. I checked and saw that I didnt have a rabbitmq.conf file. I added the listener address and port in that file (that was just created) and now the Rabbitmq error is gone. I see that a connection is formed, however Im getting now: Connection to neutron failed: Maximum attempts reached I started to set up networking with nova-network not neutron. Is this an issue?
