Hi,

I tried to upload a VMDK image iam using in Virtualbox on my local pc to my Openstack cluster. Image successfully uploaded and I created an Instance with that image. The instance is showing active state. I attached a floating IP to this instance but I cant ping this instance using floating IP. What may be the problem?? I have no problem in accessing all other instances in the cluster with the floating IP. This issue is only for this instance created from the VMDK image. Whether I need to add cloud-init to the VMDK image before creating the instance with it in Openstack?? Any help is really appreciated..

From what I have been able to gather from https:// docs.openstack.org/image-guide/ubuntu-image.html, you would need to add cloud-init and remove any identifying marks such as the mac address from the image before it will be successful in OpenStack. I don't believe it would matter which image format you used to create the image I only believe it matters that the cloud-init be installed and properly configured.
