Please note, I am deploying rdo mulinode with controller, compute & network nodes with dual hypervisors (kvm & esxi)

I made necessary changes in answer file

CONFIG_VMWARE_BACKEND=y
CONFIG_VCENTER_HOST=*****
CONFIG_VCENTER_USER=
CONFIG_VCENTER_PASSWORD=
CONFIG_VCENTER_CLUSTER_NAMES=

but still i am getting error below error

/Stage[main]/Nova::Compute/Nova::Generic_service[compute]/Service[nova-compute]: Failed to call refresh: Could not restart Service[nova-compute]: Execution of '/usr/bin/systemctl restart openstack-nova-compute' returned 1: Job for openstack-nova-compute.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status openstack-nova-compute.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

Hi, If I recall the answer file doesn't fill in all the stuff you need under nova.conf. Below is what I'd set on my Newton nova.conf which worked with vmware. However my system used only esxi hosts without kvm ones.

Nova.conf compute_driver=vmwareapi.VMwareVCDriver

[vmware] host_ip=w.x.y.z host_username=administrator@vsphere.l... host_password=password.. insecure=true (depending on your deployment, might be false) cluster_name=Cluster1

Don't forget networking, you should probably use Neutron with vmware's NSX plug-in. Unless your OK can live with simple Nova networking.
